Employment Law Changes from April 2022

Updated: Apr 6, 2022

As we enter the new tax year; there are a number of changes that you need to be aware of in terms of employment legislation.

I’ve listed just a few here:

National Minimum/ Living Wage

The national living wage has increased to £9.50 per hour from 1st April for employees who are 23 or older.

Increases to other Statutory Payments

Statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental, and parental bereavement pay will also increase from £151.97 per week to £156.66 per week from 3rd April 2022.

SSP will rise from £96.35 to £99.35 per week from 6th April 2022.

Increase in ‘a week’s pay’ for the purpose of calculating redundancy pay from £566 - £594 from 6 April 2022.

Family Friendly Changes

Statutory Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay entitlements came into force from 6th April, which strengthens employee’s rights in the event of losing a child.

A further bill on domestic abuse is awaiting Royal Assent but includes up to 10 days paid leave (called ‘safe’ leave) each year from the 1st day of employment to deal with issues related to the abuse. Much of the detail is yet to be fleshed out.

If you would like to discuss these or any other people issues, please get in touch on 07801 265746 or email muriel@mccullinshr.com
